Northeast Area Labor Council (NEALC)

Location: Northeastern Minnesota (Extensive Regional Travel Required)
Salary: Per Master Agreement/Union Agreement

Role Summary

The Field Organizer & Political Coordinator strengthens the labor movement across northeastern Minnesota by providing direct support to the Duluth, Iron Range, Koochiching, and Carlton County labor bodies. This role focuses on rank-and-file leadership development, membership mobilization, and building sustained political power for working people through solidarity and collective action.

Key Responsibilities

  • Organizing & Mobilization:  One-on-one conversations, and phone banks to mobilize union members. Support affiliates during contract campaigns, strikes, rallies, events and more.
  • Political Program: Coordinate candidate endorsements, member political education, and GOTV efforts (labor walks, phone banks). Ensure compliance with Minnesota campaign finance rules.
  • Regional Coordination: Travel extensively across the region to maintain a visible labor presence in rural and Greater Minnesota communities.
  • Coalition Building: Represent NEALC in partnerships with community, faith, tribal, and social justice organizations to advance worker-centered policies.
  • Administration: Prepare monthly reports for the Board, draft communications, and coordinate regional participation in labor council meetings.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or GED minimum.
  • Credentials: Valid driver’s license and state-required auto insurance (essential for regional travel).
  • Skills: Strong persuasive communication, meeting facilitation, and database management.
  • Experience: Proven background in union or political organizing and managing multiple projects under changing priorities.
  • Seeking a Proactive, results-oriented professional who thrives in an independent work environment and take pride and ownership from start to finish. 
  • Availability: Must be able to work long, irregular hours including evenings and weekends.
